This Website is proprietary to the Lawyers’ Insurance Association of Nova Scotia (“LIANS”). If you wish to access and use this Website (the "Site"), you must accept and agree to be bound by, and comply with, these terms of use (the "Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, then you must refrain from accessing or using the Site. All Terms will apply irrespective of the specific use made by Internet users of this Site.

The information contained on the pages of this Site is subject to modification and update from time to time without notice. LIANS does not guarantee or ensure the accuracy, completeness, currency or authenticity of any Site content, Site functionality, or your transmission of any Site content from the Site to you.

Information provided by you through our Site is used for LIANS business purposes only in order to service your needs as an insured member.

Governing laws
The laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein shall govern as to the interpretation, validity and effect of this Agreement and any use of the Site. You hereby consent and submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Nova Scotia in any action or proceeding instituted under or related to this Agreement or your use of the Site.
PRIVACY STATEMENT
The Lawyers’ Insurance Association of Nova Scotia (“LIANS”) is established and operated pursuant to the Legal Profession Act and Regulations, as part of the public protection mandate of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. LIANS conducts the mandatory professional liability insurance program for the benefit of the practising insured members.
The vision of LIANS is to be recognized by its members and peers for the superior quality of its professional liability insurance program and for its active risk and practice management program (RPM) that is used and valued by its members.
In accordance with the Regulations, unless disclosure of specific claims information is authorized or required by law, all such information shall be considered to be confidential and shall not be disclosed, and shall not be used for purposes other than for those of LIANS.
LIANS shall develop and maintain statistical information about claims which may be used for various purposes including reports to Council, loss prevention and risk management initiatives and other purposes approved by the Board.
The Risk and Practice Management Program will offer confidential support and assistance to members.
The Lawyers Assistance Program shall also be a confidential program to assist members of the Society, articled clerks, staff or their families experiencing difficulties in their personal or professional lives.
LIANS protects the privacy of all the personal information in our care. LIANS collects personal information in compliance with applicable laws and ethical business practices, in order to provide our services and to conduct business. LIANS limits the information we collect to that which is necessary for, or related to, these purposes. LIANS may use or disclose your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, other purposes you consent to, or as required or permitted by law. For example, subject to those limitations, we may share personal information with reciprocal insurers, with our solicitors or representatives or with our service providers.
