Apple's recent iOS 9 update offers a feature that automatically switches to data when the user is experiencing spotty Wi-Fi connectivity, even when connected to a wireless network. This feature is ideal for those with unlimited data, but for those with a data cap, you’ll want to disable a feature called “Wi-Fi Assist” to avoid potentially hundreds of dollars in hidden charges.
Follow these steps on your iPhone home screen:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Select ‘Cellular’
- Scroll all the way to the bottom to locate “Wi-Fi Assist” (above ‘Reset Statistics’)
- Pull the slider button left to the "off" position (until no green is showing)
