NSLAP WELLNESS: Mental Health Week is May 2-8, 2022

For those of you who attended our small firm conference in November, you will recall that we talked about how, as lawyers, we are all part of a very small community and that despite positions on files - we are all peers.

We mentioned our view that if we see our office mate or someone opposite us on a file seemingly struggling with work or life, that we should reach out. We think it fair to say that there is not much worse than struggling alone.

Mental Health Week is May 2 – 8, 2022. Lead by the Canadian Mental Health Association, this year’s theme is empathy and it touches on what we spoke of at the conference.

From the CMHA’s Mental Health Week website:

  • When someone is struggling, you don’t have to fix their aches and pains, just see it through their eyes
  • We may be different but we’re not on different sides, so we must see the world as others do
  • You can understand even if you don’t agree

Users of LAP services include not just lawyers and their staff but also their dependants.

As part of Mental Health Week, National Child and Youth Mental Health Day is May 7th and in that vein, Homewood is rereleasing a series of articles that touch on common themes lawyers and their children reach out to the service for.
